AGRICULTURAL CALL-UP. Memo. by Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and S/S Scotland, on the instructions of the Food Policy Committee.

5 Aug 1941

-2- Army 6. Since the outbreak of war nearly 4 million additional acres have been brought under the plough, and the present food production programme provides for another 2 million acres to be ploughed up during the 1941-42 season. Concurrently, there has been an increase of over 50 per cent in the area under ptotatoes. There will have to be a still further large increase in the potato acreage and in the sugar beet crop and the agricultural seed crop, all of which make heavy demands on labour. 7.
