NOTE ON DRAFT INTERNATIONAL WHEAT AGREEMENT. The Limitation of Acreage. 1. The total world's wheat area before the war (excluding China and Manchuria) was about 380 million acres. 2. The acreage in the United Kingdom was somewhat less than 2 million acres. In relation to the world's acreage it was therefore almost negligible. 3. By next year the United Kingdom acreage will undoubtedly exceed 21/2 million acres. It is fully recognised that, notwithstanding the effort and expense we have incurred in bringing about this expansion to meet war needs, we shall have to reduce it when the war ends, at least to something in the neighbourhood of 2 million acres.
