EMERGENCY RATIONING UNDER INVASION CONDITIONS.Memo. by Minister of Food.

2 Jul 1941

there is some doubt whether legally I can insist upon the shop door being closed I am advised that no great harm would be done if I were to act upon the footing that I had power to do so. I accordingly propose to instruct my Divisional Food Officers to give to each Food Executive Officer and Voluntary Food Organiser in the more vulnerable areas a signed undated Direction in a sealed envelope in the following terms: NOW THEREFORE in exercise of the functions so delegated to me I hereby give the following Directions:All Catering Establishments and all shops retailing Food in the Food Control Committee Area or [in the Parish of are to be closed immediately in order that a report of the stocks in hand may be made to the local official of the Ministry of Food.
