The figure of estimated consumption (330,000 tons) takes no account of (i) loss through air raid damage, (ii) the recent cuts in the Service requirements of wool, or (iii) an additional 15,000 tons required by the Board of Trade to meet minimum civilian requirements. The Ministry of Supply has estimated that the saving as a result of the cuts of Service requirements is likely to be of the order of 30,000 tons in 1941. (The Prime Minister's Statistical Branch holds the view that this saving of 30,000 tons should be increased by a further 20,000 tons.
