TOBACCO SUPPLIES. Memo. by President, Board of Trade.

15 Apr 1941

The President of the U.S.A. has now approved the allocation of 12 m. lbs. in the first batch of requisitions under the Lease/Lend appropriations. The negotiations which the Tobacco Controller has been conducting in the U.S.A. leave me in little doubt but that further appropriations will be made to cover the quantities of U.S. tobacco which we shall require as set out above. The Americans are most anxious that the smoking taste of the public here should not be altered by too high a mixture of Oriental tobacco and that substantial shipments should be made to keep their market in this country.
