COASTING TRAMP FREIGHTS. Memo. by Parliamentary Secretary to Ministry of Shipping.

1 Mar 1941

Committee. new rates are on the basis of an average of 16 days as ships of all sizes in present circumstances are taking the same time on the voyage. The detailed Schedule which I am now submitting for approval for the London Coal Trade is also attached (Annex B). 8. It will be noticed that there are wide differences between the cost per ton of transporting cargo by large and by small ships respectively. This is due to the fact that the cost of operating a small ship is relatively high per ton of cargo carried.
