PRICE INCREASES. Memo. by President of Board of Trade.

4 Feb 1941

Price Increases. Memorandum by the President of the Board of Trade. The reasons which have been given to justify price increases are so multitudinous that a rough classification seems to be essential, even though the boundaries between the classes are somewhat indistinct, and more than one argument is often used to justify a single price increase. Broadly speaking then we may distinguish the following:- 1. Increases due to higher "reale" costs. War conditions have in many cases caused production to be carried on in a less efficient way, so that we get a smaller physical result per unit of effort.
