Description

A file containing memoranda for meetings of the Lord President's Committee on domestic affairs during the Second World War. Topics discussed in the file include the responsibilities of governmental departments after a restructure; competition faced by the Lancashire textile industry in international markets, with particular reference to the Indian textile industry; the import levels of newspapers; and a plan for financially aiding the British film industry. Other topics discussed include a shortage in administrative personnel for government duties; the question of who holds legal responsibility for the rents of properties damaged by enemy action; the prices of wool; plans for economising the usage of petrol; and methods to utilise kitchen waste to ensure its maximum use. Regular reports discussed include the situation of British overseas trade; the status of railway works across the country; and rationing plans for consumer goods such as petrol, clothing, and soap.
