As agreed RATIONING. ###evious ###erence: (41) 40th ###ting, ###ute 3.) 1. THE MINISTER OF FOOD said that he had reconsidered the proposals put forward in his Memorandum L.P. (41) 139 in the light of the discussion which had taken place at the Committee's meeting on the 29th August. He had come to the conclusion that the proposed extension of food rationing should be regarded, not primarily as an administrative problem, but rather as an issue of general policy — the main purpose being to maintain morale rather than nutritional standards, supplies of the staple foodstuffs had been guaranteed, but there was now a widespread demand for further action by the Government to secure a better distribution of other foodstuffs which were not at present subject to control.
