Topics discussed include legislation on rent levels and on the liability for the rental of bomb-damaged properties; the import levels of newspapers and restrictions on their size; the sale of Reuters to British news corporations; and methods of providing financial aid to the British film industry. Other topics covered include the shortage of administrative personnel in government departments; issues with export surpluses in Australia and New Zealand; the concentration of industry to free up labour and factory space; and plans for government control of the construction industry. The committee also discussed their response to criticisms about government wage policy; economies in cardboard for tobacco products; and the proceedings of a conference setting up an International Wheat Advisory Committee. Regular reports of overseas trade, rationing, and levels of reserve stocks were also considered.
