INLAND SORTING DEPOTS. PROVISION OF: Memo. by Minister of Transport.

16 Dec 1940

12. The Port and Transit Organisation (see note below) is satisfied that the provision of additional sorting depots away from existing sheds is a matter of urgent national importance. 13. The port authorities are unanimous that such additional depots will help materially in keeping quays and transit sheds clear. 14. The Organisation recommend that, in the first nstance, six depots should be provided to serve South Wales orts (1) Avonmouth (1) Liverpool (2) Glasgow (2). 15. Not all the sites have yet been selected; reconnaissa###ce ###arties are still examining certain alternatives partly to make available inland water transport and partly to meet the views of the Air Staff.
