HOUSEHOLD MEANS TEST. Observations by the Assistance Board.

28 Nov 1940

6. If the matter of rent is so dealt with the question remaining is what amount the self-supporting member can be assumed to contribute towards the other expenses of the household. The Board are of opinion that where a house- hold includes a wage earner paying a sum of 25s. or there- abouts into the family exchequer the financial advantage to the householder can reasonably be put at 4s. a week in addition to the wage earner's due share of the rent, and they recommend that this amount be adopted for the purpose of a general rule.
