Copy of a letter, dated 2nd August, 1940 from the Minister Without Portfolio to Mr. Stanley Bell representing the Newspaper Proprietors### ear Mr. Bell, I have carefully considered, in conjunction with the ###nisters concerned, the representations which you and your ###lleagues laid before us on behalf of the Newspaper ###oprietors on the question of the import of newsprint, when discussed this matter on Monday, 29th July. We fully realise the importance of ensuring that there ###all be adequate supplies of newsprint both during the ###rrent season and also in the year 1941 for which, as you ###plained, it is necessary at once to enter into definite ###mmitments if you are to be assured of adequate supplies.
