There ad been a reshuffle of shifts, but now that the works were settling down to new conditions longer shifts were being reverted to and a certain amount of overtime was being worked. THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER said that the view of the Treasury, based upon the experience of the last war and since, was that even a short period of excessive hours was followed by a fall in production; there was evidence that this had begun to be felt even before June.
