PLY OF H LABOUR. 1. THE COMMITTEE had before them a note by the Secretary of State for the Home Department covering a memorandum by the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State on the subject of the supply of Irish labour (Paper No. W.P. (G) (40) 147). THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT said that since the outbreak of war the problem of control had been difficult, for there was no effective boundary between Northern Ireland and Eire; until the 29th May, 1940, no effective curtailment of movement between the two territories had been attempted in view of the close commercial and social relations between the two populations.
